Doubt and Grace – Gideon’s Story Part 4

Here’s part 4 of my talk on the story of Gideon.

We are often critical of Gideon because even though he has a major sign from God (given directly by the Angel of the LORD and everything!) he asks for more signs.

More signs!

And what does God do about that?  How does God respond to this lack of faith?

  1. Thanks so much !
I too, identify with Gideon, Moses, and Jonah, “Mannn…”. Well, also Israel in all of their shinanigans. What a merciful gracious Lord !
As a parent though, my patience would have worn thin with them all, as Gideon said, “Please be not angry.” I had a thought at the very end of your talk that maybe it is also confirmation for which we/they are looking, especially when He is only instructing privately. I don’t know, but thatthought also could be an excuse. Oh, what wretch~ed creatures we can be. 😛

  2. I am surely enjoying your observations and insights into Gideon’s story from Judges 6-7. The Lord’s response and action toward Gideon reminds me of God’s own description of His character to Moses in Exodus 34: “The Lord descended in the cloud and stood there with Moses as he called upon the name of the Lord. Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin…” This same description is echoed in David’s psalms and in Nehemiah, Joel, Jonah, and Nahum. I am forever grateful that God’s character never changes, since I would be lost without His compassion and grace!
