Wasp sting

I just got stung by a wasp!

I was walking along, minding my own business when I felt something on my calf.

Why do you care?

Well, this is just like life! When I looked back, it was obvious that there were wasps right where I walked, buzzing around and “warning” me to stay away. But I was so focussed on something else that I didn’t notice. Now, there’s a nice red spot and it’s stinging pretty good. (btw, that’s an actual photo of the wasps that got me.)

Hindsight is 20/20 they say. But it doesn’t take the sting away!

What if you could be aware of what you were doing, what was going on around you, instead of caught up in thought like I was?

Have you ever wished you could go back in time and just pay attention? I know I am feeling that right now.

Not just with the wasps either. What about when I was on my phone when my son was getting ready for work instead of chatting him up? What about when I wasn’t listening when my kids were young? What about before I lost my father unexpectedly, or my “niece”? What about…

…well, there’s so many lost moments.

This is part of what I learned in meditation. How to pay attention. In stillness before God, waiting on Him, I’ve learned to be “here”. It’s *now* that’s important. Not thinking, not planning, not assessing or pondering.

Just be here. Now.

It’s a skill that you’ll never fully develop. But it’s one well worth working on. It enriches your entire day. God is present with you, but unless you notice that it’s pretty much useless.

But I’m going to run now and see if there’s something I can put on this sting.

God bless you today,

Dean
